Job Title: Data Systems Developer

The Data Systems Developer will collaborate with the development team and report to the CEO. This candidate must be able to work independently without significant supervision and be a team-oriented individual with a results-driven mindset. Qualifications and responsibilities include:
Passion for data systems:
- Relational Databases (Teradata, Oracle, Microsoft, Postgres)
Hadoop (HDFS, MapReduce, etc.)
Cloud (AWS, Azure, etc.)
Responsibilities:
- Administer two Teradata database systems
- Administer two Hadoop Clusters
- Administer cloud-resident business continuity backups
- Coordinate with systems administrator to ensure systems security and continuity
- Update database and Hadoop systems with monthly build
- Provide ad hoc SQL query support, developing and troubleshooting queries
- ETL (extract / transform / load) of large files associate with database and clusters
- Maintain / develop tools (using Teradata, Python, and/or Scala) for file processing
- Extend existing data system tools and technologies, as needed
- Develop and build new tools to solve data processing challenges
- Develop and/or maintain data systems documentation
- Available 24×7 to provide support when urgent/important
- Maintain / develop enterprise architecture design artifacts
- Ensure business continuity with sound configuration management of data systems
- Communicate regularly and proactively with stakeholders regarding data systems
Skilled programmer:
- Python
- Scala
- SQL
- Refactoring – familiarity with older languages
- Processing large files (10+ GB)
Service oriented:
- Eager to produce products for others to use
- User documentation a must
Professional discipline:
- Design-driven
- Configuration management

MS or higher degree in statistics, applied mathematics, or related, or equivalent, 6 months experience, demonstrated knowledge of mathematical and statistical modeling, data mining, big data, applied regression, machine learning, design and analysis of data structures and algorithms, programming (C, C++, SQL, Python), R, SPSS, and Matlab.
